HELIC scan is an innovative breath test, which enables accurate detection of Helicobacter pylori within 15 minutes in children aged 4+.
HELIC SCAN is based on the biochemical method for identification of Helicobacter pylori by the urease activity, in other words, the ability to hydrolyze urea. During the test two breath samples are taken: before and after the ingestion of urea. If a child is infected with Helicobacter pylori, after taking an absolutely safe solution of urea the level of ammonia in the mouth cavity will increase, and the colour indicator in the tube will change significantly compared to the initial (basal) level. A device reads and compares changes in colour, then interprets the result which is issued already during the consultation.
Helicobacter pylori is a major cause of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in children. Helicobacter pylori causes chronic gastritis, which can later develop into gastric ulcer and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue tumors.
