Treatment of Lower Extremity Varicose Veins

If you sit a lot, work in an office are not very active, you are at risk of developing varicose veins. The first symptoms are pain, discomfort and heaviness in the legs and swelling which worsens in the late afternoon. The veins become visibly dilated, swollen and twisted. If the disease is allowed to progress, sores can develop due to decreased circulation. Additionally, blood can stagnate in the varicose veins, leading to the formation of a clot, which is called a thrombus, which may be hazardous to health or even life.
It is strongly recommended that varicose veins be treated as early as possible, before complications develop. The Cardiovascular Clinic at EMC prefers to use minimally invasive treatment methods, which are recognized by the medical community worldwide.

Compression Sclerotherapy of Lower Leg Veins

During a course of treatment at EMC, the vascular surgeon removes more than 90% of varicose veins and spider veins from the skin of the lower extremities. As a result, the patient obtains relief of pain, heaviness, swelling, with a positive cosmetic result.

Endovenous Laser Coagulation Therapy (EVLT, EVLT)

EVLT is a minimally invasive alternative to the traditional phlebectomy surgery. EVLT is performed for all stages of varicose veins. Patients have reported a good cosmetic effect from the procedure, minor pain, and an early return to normal activities (the next day). The feeling of heaviness disappears, along with the swelling and night cramps in the legs. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, completely on an outpatient basis.

Radiofrequency Obliteration (RCHO, RFA, VNUS Closure FAST)

One of the most modern methods, which our specialists are very familiar with, is endovenous radiofrequency obliteration of varicose veins: a mini-invasive procedure that is an alternative to the classic operations and laser coagulation of varicose veins. The technique provides excellent results and is the treatment method of choice for venous diseases of the lower extremities in patients with different stages of varicose veins.
Worldwide, the unit used for radiofrequency obliteration is the VNUS (produced in the US by Coviden AG), which which the Cardiovascular Clinic at EMC is equipped. Our specialists perform the RCHO procedure, which uses a VNUS Closure FAST electrode, in the treatment room, without the limitations imposed when working with the laser. The percentage of complications during and after the manipulation is practically zero. Patients usually require less than a day to recover, and there is no need for further procedures to relieve pain or eliminate bleeding.
The doctor, after a thorough examination of the patient, a study of the patient's history, taking into account individual risks and characteristics of the disease course, chooses the proper treatment for varicose veins. The variety of treatment methods practiced in the clinic for varicose veins does not mean that all of the methods may be applicable for each patient. We invite you to consult with a specialist from the Cardiovascular Clinic at EMC and discuss which treatment options are right for you.
