The EMC Children’s Clinic has psychotherapists, psychologists and psychiatrists with professional practice experience in the clinics of USA and Western Europe. Young patients are assisted and supported in addressing the entire range of psycho-emotional sphere issues. All stuff of EMC Children's clinic speaks English.
In working with children we are using the following methods:
- psychotherapy techniques, psychological counselling;
- cognitive behavioral therapy technologies;
- modern drug therapy;
- physiotherapy methods.
Our clinic, in addition to children's psychotherapists, psychologists and child psychiatrists, has staff neuropsychologist, pathologist and ergotherapist helping to address many ‘traditional’ issues in the field of child psychotherapy:
- adaptation problems;
- learning or behavior disorders;
- consequences of psychological traumas, etc.
The clinic, with direct involvement of an experienced neuropsychologist, has developed a neurocognitive correction program for children with hyperactivity disorders and severe medical illnesses; innovative programs for the correction of eating disorders in young children, and programs for acquiring social and life skills for children with developmental delays.
The neuropsychological correction is effective for children experiencing difficulties with learning and communication. According to studies, such problems are largely related to individual characteristics of forming mental functions in the early stages of child development, starting in the period of fetal development. The neuropsychological correction program is an exercise complex, structured in accordance with the development periods of human mental processes. During the exercises children have the opportunity (in a game format), to go through the stages of psychomotor development, and ‘complete’ those mental processes which, for various reasons, were not fully formed at the corresponding age levels.
Neuropsychological correction programs are addressing the following issues:
- increased fatigue and difficulty concentrating;
- absent-mindedness, forgetfulness, inattentiveness and difficulty in self-organization;
- distractibility and restlessness;
- difficulty in remembering and learning, including numeracy, reading and writing;
- difficulties in planning and logical thinking.
In the absence of attention from specialists and timely professional psychological help, such particularities of development may become a serious obstacle for the child socialization and professional development in the future. The prevention of these problems in some cases is made possible through collaboration of the neuropsychologist with specialists in related areas: neurologists and psychotherapists.
The neuropsychological correction program is individually designed depending on the age of the child and in accordance with results of the neuropsychological diagnosis. In the course of neuropsychological examination, the specialist determines the root cause of the the child’s difficulties, as well as the level of formation of individual mental functions, and the development strengths and weaknesses. Based on the results obtained, individual or group sessions may be recommended as a part of the neuropsychological correction program, with the duration and intensity of this program set on individual basis.
At the EMC Children’s Clinic the young patients are also given assistance in the event of eating behavior disorders, including those with onset at a very early age. The problem may be caused by false ideas that the parents might have of the child's balanced diet in the first few months and years of life, and a distorted view of how much a child should weigh at a certain age and what he/she should look like. As a result, growing up, the child loses his ability to adequately assess his/her need for food and ceases to understand whether he/she is actually hungry. The development of related digestive problems and other psychosomatic disorders is possible. After ruling out somatic diseases that could be causing the problem, the specialists help parents learn all about the needs of the child, the right care and proper feeding methods.
