The EMC Children’s Clinic Department of Endocrinology provides a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of all types of the endocrine system disorders. All stuff of EMC Children's clinic speaks English.
One of the most frequent issues addressed by a children's endocrinologist, is thyroid disease: chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, congenital hypothyroidism, or palpable abnormalities (nodes) of thyroid gland in children. The EMC Children’s Clinic offers complete supervision and treatment of these diseases.
The Children’s Clinic endocrinologists also diagnose, treat and supervise children with problems of growth and sexual development:
  • premature sexual development (premature adrenarche, appearance of pubic body hair; premature thelarche, breast enlargement and other forms of early and rapid sexual development);
  • delayed growth and sexual development (STH-deficit, constitutional and idiopathic short stature);
  • menstrual irregularities, excess hair growth, acne and oily seborrhea;
  • gynecomastia (breast enlargement in boys).
The sphere of children's endocrinology includes diseases considered to be mostly adults’ problems, but lately, unfortunately, increasingly common in children: obesity and diabetes.
Physical inactivity and unhealthy eating habits inevitably lead to excess weight. Very often the question is raised, what comes first: hormonal disorders or the wrong lifestyle? The EMC specialists would conduct an examination to determine the root cause of obesity and provide the most effective and safe weight-control recommendations.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune pancreatic disorder, leading to the destruction of cells producing insulin. When this hormone is absent, the blood sugar level rises. The constant introduction of insulin is currently the only method of treatment of this disease. The treatment must be continued throughout the entire life.
The EMC provides inpatient and outpatient treatment for children and adolescents with type I diabetes. The clinic uses the latest technologies to improve the compensation of carbohydrate exchange - continuous monitoring of glycemia and pump insulin therapy. Modern medical technologies can greatly enhance the quality of life for young patients, but still, the most important factor in the successful treatment of diabetes remains the proper education of children and their parents, understanding and constant contact with an endocrinologist, and working with a psychologist.
The EMC Children's Clinic has all the capabilities for a complete diagnosis of the endocrine system’s abnormalities – there are all types of instrumental and laboratory studies, including specialized ultrasound examinations, functional tests, such as the release of growth hormone stimulation test, glucose loading test, insulin test, etc.
In the first days of life, your baby would undergo the screening for the five most common and complex diseases, two of which are endocrine: congenital adrenal cortex dysfunction (or adrenogenital syndrome) and congenital hypothyroidism. Very often the screening results pose additional questions and require additional interpretation done by a specialist. Pediatric endocrinologists at EMC will help to properly interpret the tests and, if necessary, assign appropriate treatment.
Also, the EMC Children’s Clinic offers full examination and treatment of children with rare endocrine disorders: congenital adrenal cortex dysfunction, adrenal failure, tumors of neuroendocrine system, phosphorus-calcium metabolism pathologies, sexualization pathologies, hypoglycemic syndrome, syndrome pathologies (Klinefelter, Turner, Noonan, McCune–Albright, and Kushing syndromes, etc.).
