About clinic

The EMC Radiotherapy Center is a subdivision of the Institute of Oncology of the European Medical Center - the first private clinic in Russia that provides comprehensive treatment of cancer at the international level.

At the EMC Radiotherapy Center, a highly qualified team of specialists conducts treatment under the guidance of Dr. Nidal Salim, oncologist and radiologist.

Nidal SALIM

Head of the Radiotherapy Center, radiotherapist.

Member of the European Society of Medical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Israeli Society of Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy.

Chief non-staff radiotherapy specialist in Moscow.

The center is equipped with the latest generation linear accelerators, produced by Varian, USA, including the first in Eastern Europe Varian® EdgeTM radiosurgery system, the most advanced radiosurgery technology available. The main advantage of this cutting edge technology is that it provides submillimeter accuracy at each stage of treatment for maximum protection of healthy tissues. The system allows treatment of tumors of any location, size and shape. The treatment of multiple metastases in one session is also possible. The patient is able to return to normal life right after the procedure.

BENEFITS OF RADIOTHERAPY IN EMC:

  • A team of highly qualified specialists trained in radiotherapy in leading clinics of Israel and the United States.

  • The whole range of modern technologies of radiotherapy.

  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (in treatment of tumors of the brain or spine with a focused high-intensity radiation beam, similar to the technologies of "cyber-knife" and "gamma-knife").

  • Control of treatment effectiveness using the most up-to-date equipment (MRI, PET/CT, SPECT/CT).

  • Multidisciplinary approach (patient supervision by an international team of specialists from the EMC Institute of Oncology).

WHAT IS RADIOTHERAPY?

Radiotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses targeted ionizing radiation to destroy cancer cells and reduce tumor volume. It isn’t painful. Radiation is invisible and not felt by the patient.

RADIATION THERAPY IS USED:

as a palliative treatment when a tumor cannot be removed.

  • to destroy a tumor without surgical intervention and prevent its recurrence;
  • before surgery to reduce the volume of the tumor;
  • after surgery to destroy the remaining cancer cells;
  • in combination with chemotherapy;

RADIATION THERAPY METHODS IN EMC:

  • RapidArc rotational radiotherapy with volume modulation of the radiation intensity; RapidArc  rotational radiotherapy with breath control "Gated";
  • IMRT radiotherapy with modulated intensity;
  • IGRT radiotherapy under visual control;
  • SRS stereotactic radiosurgery; SBRT stereotactic radiotherapy.

INTRAOPERATIVE RADIOTHERAPY

EMC has implemented a unique Xoft intraoperative radiotherapy technique for recurrent gliomas (malignant brain tumors), which showed a significant prolongation of survival of patients. Xoft is also used to treat skin cancer, primary breast and prostate gland tumors, as well as tumors of other sites.

EMERGENCY RADIOTHERAPY

For urgent conditions in oncology, emergency radiotherapy may be required.

The most common emergency oncological conditions are the following: compression of the spinal cord, brain metastases (causing impaired consciousness, uncontrollable convulsions), superior vena cava syndrome (complicated by cardiovascular or neurological disorders), acute impairment of airway patency, uncontrolled bleeding in the tumor.

At EMC, emergency radiotherapy is performed around the clock including weekends and holidays as an outpatient procedure (without hospitalization) for both adults and children.

CHILDREN RADIOTHERAPY

EMC Radiotherapy Center specialists have considerable experience of work with pediatric patients. Modern technologies of radiotherapy provide the most careful and effective treatment of cancer in young patients.

The EMC Radiotherapy Center allows radiation therapy to be carried out for various childhood cancers, including brain and spinal cord tumors, lymphomas, neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma, bone and soft tissue sarcoma, Williams tumor.
