EMC history
1989
The European Medical Center (EMC) was founded in 1989 with the participation of the French company Europ Assistance to provide medical assistance to foreigners living in Moscow.
2004
With the new administration in 2004, there was a further expansion of clinical practice, primarily due to the widening of surgical directions, the number of surgical procedures increased several times, and an emergency and urgent care service was organized.
2007
EMC ophthalmologist was the first in Russia to perform laser correction of age-related presbyopia (far-sightedness).
2008
EMC otolaryngologist was the first in Moscow to successfully conduct an operation for placement of the Vibrant Med-El auditory implant.
2009
In 2009 the new EMC building was built in Orlovsky Lane with a total area of 5000 sq.m., compromising an outpatient department, a hospital, an intensive care unit and four ultra-modern operating units, as well as a diagnostic center with computer and magnetic resonance imaging machine, mammography, and endoscopy.
2012
To further expand the capabilities of EMC, a new multidisciplinary hospital was opened at Shchepkina street in 2012 in order to provide full-cycle cancer care.
The first private clinic in Russia to perform gynecological and gynecologic cancer surgeries using the latest generation Da Vinci Si HD Surgical System.
EMC opened Russia's first private clinical laboratory for pathomorphology and cytology.
The first private practice to perform a CT/MRI-guided biopsy.
2013
Russia's first robot-assisted cystoprostatectomy with lymph node dissection (removal of the bladder, prostate gland and lymph node chains using the Da Vinci Si HD Surgical System) in a patient diagnosed with a bladder tumor.
2014
In 2014 the scientific and practical potential of the clinic was further expanded thanks to the world-renowned specialists in the field of neurosurgery, spinal surgery, liver surgery and transplantology, reconstructive and general urology joining the center's team.
The first total thyroidectomy (removal of the thyroid) in Russia using the Da Vinci Si HD Surgical System.
The first robotic hemithyroidectomy in Russia (removal of a palpable abnormality in the right lobe of the thyroid using the Da Vinci system).
2015
In May 2015 the Center for Radionuclide Diagnostics was established in the hospital in Shchepkina street; it includes PET / CT, SPECT-CT scanners and a cyclotron-radiochemical complex with a laboratory for the synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, as well as radiation therapy department with the latest generation Truebeam linear accelerator.
The first unique neurosurgical operation on an adult patient in Russia using an innovative CustomBone technology to eliminate extensive skull defects resulting from trauma.
2016
For the first time in Russia and Eastern Europe EMC has implemented the latest method for treating early-stage breast cancer - breast sparing surgical treatment with simultaneous intraoperative radiotherapy using the Xoft System.
2017
A logical continuation of the clinic's work in the field of gynecology, IVF, pregnancy management and pediatrics was establishment of the Maternity Hospital on Pravdy Street in Summer 2017.
For the first time in Russia a robotic-assisted operation was performed on a two-year-old child with hydronephrosis.
2018
In June 2018 Varian EDGE, the first innovative system for radiosurgical and radiotherapy treatment of oncological diseases in Eastern Europe, was installed at the European Medical Center.
EMC (the Hospital at 35 Schepkina Street) received accreditation from the Joint Commission International.
